REPORTING AN ANIMAL CONTROL VIOLATION

To report a dog bite or dog attack within the La Quinta city limits, please call the RCDAS office at (760) 343-3644 as soon as possible. Providing a description of the dog, date, time, location of the attack, and where the dog lives (if known), will be helpful to the officer following-up on your complaint.

If you need immediate medical attention, contact your health care provider, urgent care or hospital for treatment. The treating physician will also document a report of the dog bite incident.

To report issues involving unleashed dogs, dogs running loose, illegal animals or unsanitary premises, you may file a complaint by filing out and submitting a Report of Animal Control Violation or visiting us at City Hall.  If you need more information or have questions, you may call RCDAS at (760) 343-3644.  You will be required to provide the street number and name, the type of violation and description, reporting party’s name (your name), address and phone number. Your identity will not be disclosed unless required by state law.

BARKING DOGS

 dog-baring-teeth

Should you need advice on handling barking dog concerns, please contact RCDAS.  Whether you are the dog owner or a neighbor seeking remedy for the situation, we are happy to guide you to a positive solution.

If you have contacted the dog’s owner and attempted to resolve the problem and all attempts at compliance have been unsuccessful, the City of La Quinta requires a barking dog petition (PDF) be completed for noise disturbances caused by animals.  Requirements for completing a barking dog petition are attached.  The petition must be legible, filled out in ink and completed in its entirety. Incomplete or anonymous petitions will not be accepted. Once RCDAS receives a completed barking dog petition, the dog owner is contacted.
